5 Steps to A Great Rental Car Experience

 by: John Mancini

There are times in one's life when the use of rental cars cannot be avoided. When someone plows into you at an intersection, when you are taking a 2-day trip and your compact car just does not have enough room to stretch out, these are times when you are happy that there are rental cars at your disposal. Before you rent that car, though, you should know some things about the process.

1- The first step involved in obtaining a rental car is to do research on the companies in your local area. There are a number of nation wide companies and more than likely local companies to choose from when conducting your research. Try to narrow them down to three or four companies that are closest to either your pick up location or your destination.

2- You will want to ask about procedures that may be required by the rental company. Many companies require that the car be fueled up before its return, if this is not done, they will charge you extra for it. It may also be in your best interest to ask what the fee would be if the car is needed for longer than expected as well as what the rate is for late drop off.

3- If you have personal auto insurance, call your agent to see if you are insured with a rental car as well. This will allow you to save money by turning down the insurance offered by the rental company at the time of vehicle pick up.

4- Finally, you have chosen the company and the car, its time to pick it up. Make sure that you have the paper work that you will need. Most companies will require you to show your drivers license, be sure to have it. Also, your proof of auto insurance, if you will be turning their insurance down. A major credit card is necessary; if you are not using cash to rent your car, do not count on them taking a check.

5- Be sure to read the contract and ask questions about anything that you do not understand. It's better to take sometime at the counter or on the phone to pin down the details, than to think you got it and have to deal with the company in the event of an accident. Ask questions!

What To Look For When Buying Cars Online

What To Look For When Buying Cars Online

 by: Dr. Drew Henry

Ten years ago, you would be laughed at if you were to tell someone that people would buy cars without first inspecting them in person. Well, today thousands of people are buying cars on the internet through sites like eBay, without ever physically coming in contact with their cars before the purchase!

Let?s face it: The internet is a hassle free place to shop for cars. There are many advantages to shopping cars online. When buying a car online, you don?t have to listen to a dealer talk about the specs of a car. You just have to read all about it in a website. You don?t have to go to a showroom, you just to have to point and click your mouse and you could browse through different make and models of cars. And if you want to take a second look at a car it?s very easy.

Furthermore, transactions can be done without you having to go out of your room. After ordering the car you want...

Certified Used Car Still a Risk to Buy

Certified Used Car Still a Risk to Buy

 by: Charles Essmeier

With the price of a new car getting higher and higher each year, many buyers choose to buy used cars instead. The price of a new car can easily equal a year's pay for many people, so buying a used car makes sense. But there are risks associated with buying a pre-owned vehicle. What if is defective? What if it is a lemon law buyback? Once should always be a bit suspicious of a used vehicle. After all, if it is a great buy, then why did the original owner choose to part with it?

To resolve some of these issues, as well as to compete with volume dealers of used cars such as Carmax, the major auto manufacturers have introduced the concept of a "certified used car." These cars are inspected for problems, repaired if necessary, and offered for sale with a warranty that is better than the one typically offered with sales of used cars. In exchange for this added peace of mind, the buyer pays...

Do you have sleep insurance?

Do you have sleep insurance?

 by: Aaron Hoos

Sleep insurance is not a policy you can take out on your slumber. It?s not an insurance policy sold to insomniacs. Rather, it?s something that lets you sleep at night.

Without it, you?ll lose sleep worrying about it.

Here?s what we mean: While you?re driving to work, count the number of auto repair shops. There?s a lot, aren?t there? There are! After all, we live in a world that relies heavily on our car. Now think about how they stay in business: from cars breaking down. That?s a lot of cars breaking down.

Now think about this: what will you do when your car breaks down? (Yes, you?ll bring it to the garage? then what?) Will you be able to afford the repairs when you get the bill? When your car?s in the shop, will you be able to sleep at night or will you lay awake, worrying about the price? That?s what we mean by sleep insurance.

Sleep insurance is a warranty on your car.

Mind Reading 101

Mind Reading 101

 by: Lynn Colwell

Once when I was a cube dweller, toiling away at my computer, I received a call from the company operator asking me to come up front. When I arrived, she pointed to a gorgeous bouquet. My favorite wildflowers exploded from a vase. As I returned to my desk carrying the gift, at least half a dozen co-workers smiled and asked the significance of the day. "It's no special occasion," I replied. "My husband sent them 'just because....
